Research tells us that one in four adults will experience a diagnosable mental illness in their lifetime. Everyone needs a little help now and then. 3. What happens when I call Bert Nash? When you call Bert Nash and ask for an appointment to see a therapist you will be referred to our Access Center. Access Center staff will speak with you over the phone and assess your needs – and help you set up your first appointment with a therapist. The therapist may be a psychologist or a licensed social worker. (If you are in a crisis situation you will not have to wait for an appointment). When you come in for your first appointment, you will go to the first floor reception of the Bert Nash Center at 200 Maine Street in Lawrence (the Community Health Facility). You will meet with your Access Center representative for a few minutes to go over paperwork and then you will meet with a therapist. Your therapist will determine the next steps for your treatment and set up your next appointment. 4. What if I am calling about my child? If you are a parent calling to set up an appointment for you and your child, you will also speak with an Access Center staff member. When you and your child come in for your first appointment, you will first go to the Reception desk on the first floor of Bert Nash at 200 Maine Street in Lawrence (the Community Health Facility). You will meet with an Access Center representative to review paperwork and then meet with your therapist. 5. Where is the Bert Nash office? When is the office open? Bert Nash is located at 200 Maine Street in Lawrence (Community Health Facility). Appointments are scheduled during the week Monday – Friday. 6. Will insurance pay for my appointments? How is the billing done? In order to receive services, you must be a Douglas County resident. During your initial phone call, you will be asked to provide information about insurance and income in order to determine your payment rate. Fees vary according to the services provided and are comparable to or lower than the cost of similar services in private agencies. Bert Nash is an approved provider for mental health services for many insurance providers. Our staff files claims to private insurers, Medicaid (Kansas), and Medicare. Clients without insurance may qualify for sliding scale fees based on income. Payment is expected at the time service is provided. 7. What about confidentiality? Maintaining confidentiality is essential. Information you share with members of our staff will not be given to any other person without your written consent, or in special situations defined by law.
