Bert Nash WRAP program extended for another year in Eudora schools

Eudora’s school superintendent lauded funding that will extend Bert Nash’s WRAP (Working to Recognize Alternative Possibilities) program for another year in all three of the community’s schools.

The WRAP workers in Eudora are Carla DeHetre (middle school), Amy Brown (high school) and Elizabeth Day (elementary school). WRAP workers are master’s-level mental health clinicians who work collaboratively with school counselors, teachers and administrators.

“WRAP is a critical component to our district’s efforts to create supportive and safe schools, where all students learn and develop the social and emotional skills to be successful in school and in life,” said Superintendent Don Grosdidier.

“The extension funding for WRAP is very important for our district because we’re still in the process of developing systems, including an online referral tool for teachers, that tie WRAP into the ways that we support students,” Grosdidier said. “This extension of funding will allow us the time to complete much of that work so that our system is even stronger going forward.

“An additional year of grant dollars also will buys us critical time to work with Bert Nash and Douglas County to find ways to provide and sustain WRAP services in all county schools on a long-term basis,” the Eudora superintendent said.

A WRAP worker is also assigned to two of the Lawrence middle schools and both high schools. There used to be a WRAP worker in every Lawrence school, but the program was scaled back because of decreases in funding.
