Screening at the Community Health Facility

Our community partner, Heartland Community Health Center, has set up a screening tent at the south entrance in front of the Community Health Facility, 200 Maine St. This was done primarily to screen individuals coming to appointments for services at Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health on the first floor. Heartland also offered to screen all individuals coming into the building. 

This is voluntary and Bert Nash clients can decline to participate. Should they agree, they will be asked five screening questions. Should they screen positive for any of the verbal questions, one of the following steps will occur: 

If they are an existing HCHC client, they will be redirected to the main HCHC location for further screening.

If they are not an HCHC patient, they will be given the phone number to the health department’s screening line at 785-856-4343 for further guidance.

Again, this is voluntary for Bert Nash Center clients and it is not HCHC’s role to prohibit entrance into the building. Bert Nash will continue to ask our screening questions when clients come into our space. When BNC staff reach out to clients via phone to confirm their appointment and pre-screen them, they will inform them about the screening tent.
