Why I do what I do – Julie Berndsen, Community Based Services Case Manager

I love serving the community in which I live. As a Kansan and Douglas County resident I see the hard work ethic as a backbone to our identity.

I want to be part of the change to help our residents feel comfort seeking mental health services. Walking through those front doors can be a big step. I want to acknowledge the bravery people show in asking for help.

In my work with both kids and adults, I love being able to see people’s confidence grow in who they are as things get better. You get to see their personality emerge. I love that!

When times are tough, I find it an honor when people call my phone because it shows a level of trust and confidence they have in you. The staff at Bert Nash are some of the most authentic people I have ever met. If they don’t know the answer to something, they can point you in the direction of someone who does.

Bert Nash has been here prior to, during, and will be here long after the pandemic. It’s important that we continue to fund this mental health infrastructure as we are a much-needed resource in this community. We need to remember to all take care of each other during these times.
